Rolls-Royce powers ahead

CAPITAL TALK

At the core, Rolls-Royce’s expertise lies in gas turbine technology. The group also provides power systems based on this technology.

TO most of us, the mention of Rolls-Royce brings up images of an expensive luxury car. To iCapital, Rolls-Royce presents an investing opportunity

The Rolls-Royce brand is 100 years old, with its name derived from the company’s founders, Henry Royce and Charles Rolls. In 1971, the company and subsequently, the brand were split.

Rolls-Royce plc, the owner of the Rolls-Royce trademark, initially granted permission for their usage to a newly formed entity, Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motors Ltd.

In 1998, this licence was withdrawn when the motorcar trademarks were sold by Rolls-Royce plc to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd, a part of BMW.

This company manufactures the well-known luxury automobiles. Rolls-Royce plc retained the registrations for its trademarks for use in markets other than the motor industry.

Its holding company, Rolls-Royce Group plc, is now a global engineering company operating in the civil aerospace, defence, marine and energy markets. Rolls-Royce is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Rolls-Royce is a world leader in providing power systems for use on land, at sea and in the air. The group has a balanced clientele and business mix with leading positions in the civil and defence aerospace, marine and energy markets.

The company has a broad customer base of 600 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators, 160 armed forces, more than 2,000 marine customers including 70 navies, and energy customers in 120 countries.

There are about 54,000 Rolls-Royce gas turbines in service. In 2006, civil aerospace made up 53% of the group’s revenue of £7.156bil, defence aerospace 22%, marine 18% and energy 7%. In 2006, firm and announced orders totalled a massive £26.1bil.

At the core, the company’s expertise lies in gas turbine technology, where it provides power systems based on this technology.

Similar to the concept of platform in the car manufacturing business, Rolls-Royce does not have separate gas turbine factories for each of its businesses.

It makes blades for aero, marine and industrial engines from the same turbine blade-making facility using the same components, for example. It continues to invest in core technologies, products, people and capabilities and these investments create high barriers to entry.

To broaden its revenue and earnings base, Rolls-Royce provides high-value, product-related services to its customers throughout the operational lives of its gas turbines.

It has aggressively built this attractive after-market services business, which enhances the performance and reliability of its products. Revenue from services has grown 10% per annum compounded over the past 10 years and now forms about half of the group’s sales.

The group has 400 key suppliers. However, Rolls-Royce manufactures only about 30%, by value, of its gas turbine products and the balance 70% is provided by external suppliers.

The group focuses on manufacturing the high value added components.

In civil aerospace, Rolls-Royce is the world number two engine maker. Its competitors include GE and Pratt Whitney.

The group is number one in large turbofans and business jets. Of £3.775bil total sales in 2006, 59% came from its after-market services.

The TotalCare and CorporateCare contracts cover 80% of its new customers since 2001.

Over the next 20 years, an estimated 114,000 engines worth over US$600bil, are expected to be delivered.

In defence aerospace, Rolls-Royce’s engines power aircraft in all of the major military aviation market sectors, from military transport aircraft and helicopters, to trainers and combat aircraft.

It is the number one military aero engine manufacturer in Europe, the number two military aero engine manufacturer in the world and powers about 25% of the world’s military fleet.

Rolls-Royce participates in the world’s two largest combat programmes, supplying hardware and technical expertise for both the Eurofighter Typhoon and the US Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35 aircraft.

The group has been involved in the JSF programme since its inception in 1996.

Qatar Airways buys new line of Airbus jets

By Kevin Done in London

Published: May 30 2007 16:34 | Last updated: May 30 2007 16:34

Qatar Airways will become the crucial launch customer for the new family of Airbus long-haul, wide-body jets, the A350XWB, which will be key to a recovery in the troubled European aircraft maker’s fortunes in the next decade.

The fast-growing Middle East carrier signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus on Thursday to buy 80 A350s, in an order valued at $18.4bn before very heavy discounts.

John Leahy, Airbus chief commercial officer, said Airbus was confident of signing a final purchase agreement with Qatar Airways “shortly. My target is a final signing at Le Bourget [the Paris airshow, which opens on June 18],” he said.

Qatar Airways will order engines for its A350s from Rolls-Royce.The UK jet engine maker is the sole engine supplier to date to have joined the programme, although Airbus is also in discussions with General Electric of the US, which could supply power units for the two smaller versions of the A350.

The MoU with Qatar provides a first vote of confidence from a leading long-haul carrier in the ability of the loss-making European aircraft maker to deliver its planned family of long range, 270-350 seat jets on schedule following the costly debacle and two years of delays in bringing the larger A380 superjumbo into series production.

Qatar Airways originally reached a provisional agreement with Airbus in mid-2005 to order 60 A350s, but the project was then hit by long delays. Airbus was forced to revise and improve its design for the jet several times to satisfy demands from airlines and lessors and to meet the heavy competitive threat from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The A350 programme was finally approved for industrial launch last December, but the aircraft is not due to enter into commercial service until 2013. It will follow at least five years after the rival Boeing 787, which is due to make its maiden flight in the autumn and to enter commercial service with Japan’s All Nippon Airways later this year.

Boeing claims that the 787 is the fastest selling commercial jet in the history of the aviation industry. Since the launch of the programme in April 2004, it has won 584 firm orders from 45 customers, including the latest purchase announced yesterday from Russia’s S7 Group for 15 787s, valued at $2.4bn at list prices before discounts.

Airbus said that Qatar Airways was planning to purchase all three variants of the A350 including 20 A350-800s, 40 A350-900s and 20 A350-1000s, the largest in the range at around 350 seats, which is not due to fly before the middle of the next decade.

The first A350XWB delivery to Qatar is due in mid-2013.

The MoU was formally signed at the Élysée Palace in Paris in the presence of the new French president Nicolas Sarkozy and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. The French state owns a 15 per cent stake in EADS, the Airbus parent company.

Airbus has to date only booked 13 firm orders for the A350XWB with 11 ordered by Finnair, the first airline customer, and two by Pegasus Aviation, a US aircraft lessor.

Mr Leahy said, however, “I would expect to have 200 firm in the order book by the end of the year.”

This total will largely comprise the 80 expected orders from Qatar and many of the 102 firm orders taken for the earlier proposed versions of the A350, which Mr Leahy said he was confident would be converted into firm orders for the A350XWB. “Airlines have a right to cancel, but we have not had any cancellations so far,” he said.

Airbus already faces a tough schedule to develop and deliver the A350 on time. For the first time for the European aircraft maker the A350 will feature an all-composite fuselage and wing.

It will also be key to the troubled group’s restructuring with Airbus planning for around 50 per cent of the A350 airframe to be outsourced to risk-sharing partners, about twice as much as in earlier aircraft programmes.

R-R reveals clean open rotor design

By Aimée Turner

Engine may power next generation of narrowbody aircraft

Rolls-Royce has revealed it is examining an "open rotor" concept as one of several potential engine designs that could power Airbus and Boeing's next-generation narrowbody airliners.

Colin Smith, R-R director of engineering and technology, says the open rotor concept would be developed under the €1.6 billion ($2.09 billion) European Union Clean Sky joint technology initiative (JTI), which is expected to be officially launched within weeks.

Derby-based R-R was one of nine manufacturers that last October signed a memorandum of understanding to join Europe's largest ever public-private aeronautics research project to lessen the impact of aviation on the environment, part of the EU's €50.5 billion Seventh Framework research programme, which ends in 2013.

Smith describes open rotor technology as a "game changer" offering up to 15% more fuel efficiency than a conventional two- or three- shaft turbine and a significant operating cost reduction.

Open-rotor technology represents one of R-R's four emerging concepts for aircraft in the 130- to 180-seat category, with potential higher efficiency gains driving acquisition and maintenance costs.

The engine manufacturer is also proposing a two-shaft lower-cost design featuring Engine 3E-based architecture with booster configuration capability. Engine 3E (environment, efficiency, economy) is a German government-sponsored research programme aimed at reducing noise levels by 10%, carbon dioxide emissions by 20% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 85% by 2010.

A novel engine core with a low part-count is also under consideration, as is a three-shaft Trent-based engine architecture that could operate at cooler temperatures and offer a low specific fuel consumption.

"Open-rotor engines offer 15% more fuel efficiency, but they also demand that huge changes are made to the airframe configuration," says Smith. The lower speed at which open rotor-powered aircraft fly would, he says, probably be offset by the average sector length operated by a narrowbody.

A series of demonstration powerplants for different aircraft types will be developed and tested on the ground or in flight by the beginning of the next decade within the seven-year JTI. Snecma and MTU Aero Engines are also likely to be JTI platform leaders, proposing advanced engine technology demonstrators.

GE cedes Qatar A350 powerplant deal to R-R

By

All three variants of the Airbus A350 XWB twinjet being ordered by Qatar Airways will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, the European airframer's chief salesman revealed last week.

Airbus chief operating officer customers John Leahy confirmed that R-R - so far the only powerplant manufacturer to commit to developing an engine to power all three A350 XWB models - has been selected for the Qatar airframes. He says talks are ongoing with General Electric to come up with a competing engine for the A350 XWB, although nothing has been finalised.

Qatar last week signed a memorandum of agreement to buy 20 A350-1000s, 40 A350-900s and 20 A350-800s with deliveries from 2013. The order supersedes a 2005 deal under which the carrier was to take 60 of the original-design A350, a mix of A350-800s and -900s. The carrier had intended to equip these with GE GEnx engines.

Flyglobespan selects Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 for long-haul expansion

18 June 2007

UK low-cost airline, Flyglobespan, has selected the Trent 1000 to power the two Boeing 787 Dreamliners it is leasing from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC). This is a first-time Trent order from the airline.

The Trent 1000s will be covered by a long-term TotalCare services agreement, worth $100 million, under which Rolls-Royce will manage engine support and maintenance on behalf of Flyglobespan for an agreed dollar rate per flying hour.

The Trent-powered 787s will be delivered from 2010 and will enable the airline to grow its long-haul route network.

Tom Dalrymple, Chairman of Flyglobespan, said: "We’re proud to operate a modern fleet of aircraft that minimise any environmental impact and we were very conscious of this when making our engine selection for the 787. The fact that the Trent 1000 clearly beats all current and proposed environmental legislation was a deciding factor, especially during a phase when we’re expanding our network.”

Dominic Horwood, Director – Boeing Programmes at Rolls-Royce added: “The Trent 1000 was designed to meet the needs of our customers and, supported by TotalCare, it is the ideal solution for operators that want to minimise lifecycle costs while maximising revenue opportunities. We’re delighted to welcome Flyglobespan to the expanding Trent family.”

The first pair of Trent 1000s has been shipped by Rolls-Royce for installation on the initial 787. As launch engine for the new Dreamliner, the Trent 1000 will power the aircraft’s first flight later this year.

Note to Editors:

1. Including the aircraft involved in today’s announcement, firm and option orders have been placed for a total of 180 Trent 1000–powered Boeing 787s by Air New Zealand, ANA, Icelandair, LOT Polish Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Blue Panorama, Air China, Monarch and leasing companies, ILFC, LCAL, Pegasus and CIT.

2. The Trent 1000 is the launch engine on all variants of the Boeing 787. ANA will begin operating the 787-8 in mid 2008 and will also introduce the short-range 787-3 in 2010.

3. The Trent 1000 is the fifth member of the Trent family, the first of which entered service in 1995. By the time it enters service on the 787, the flying experience accumulated by all previous Trent engines will total around 35 million hours.

4. Half of the Rolls-Royce civil fleet is covered by TotalCare agreements, and around 80 per cent of all new Trent orders since 2001 have been accompanied by TotalCare contracts.

5. TotalCare agreements, tailored for individual operators, offer a range of services extending to aspects of support such as latest predictive maintenance, asset and logistics management, as well as repair and overhaul. TotalCare offers the opportunity to remove uncertainties from engine management and provides airlines with greater financial confidence from managing predictable costs.

6. Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its products. Each year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners, invests around £700 million on research and development, two thirds of which has the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its products. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise and emissions.

7. Flyglobespan is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Globespan Group Plc, a company established in 1974. The airline began flying in April 2002 and now operates 21 aircraft to a wide range of destinations within Europe, Africa, Canada and the USA. It is based in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London Stansted.

Rolls-Royce Trent 700 To power additional A330s for ILFC

18 June 2007

Rolls-Royce today announced that International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) has selected the Trent 700 to power up to five additional Airbus A330s it is adding to its fleet. The deal is worth around $180 million to Rolls-Royce at list prices.

This selection takes the total number of Trent-powered A330s owned by ILFC to 46 firm aircraft, and means that Rolls-Royce will now power more than 50 per cent of ILFC’s total A330 fleet. The first of the new aircraft is scheduled for delivery in 2009.

Mike Terrett, President – Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, said: “The Trent 700’s popularity continues to be evident on the A330, where the engine’s flexibility makes it the ideal solution for leasing companies, who have to accommodate a wide variety of customer operations.”

John Plueger, President and Chief Operating Officer at ILFC, added: “The Trent 700’s environmental characteristics are a great fit for our customers, who are increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of their operations. This, combined with the engine’s in-service performance, has made the Trent 700 the most popular choice for our A330 fleet.”

In the last three years, the Trent 700 has won more than 80 per cent of A330 engine competitions featuring aircraft leasing companies. Overall, the Trent 700 maintains a market share of over 50 per cent of lessor orders for A330s.

Note to Editors

1. The Trent 700 is the only engine on the A330 that has been specifically designed for the aircraft, resulting in better performance, reliability and maintenance costs. It is the market leader on the A330 with a 43 per cent share of orders.

2. The Trent 700 was the first engine in the Trent family to enter service in March 1995 and is the most powerful engine for the A330, with a maximum in-service thrust of 72,000lb.

3. The Trent 700 is the most environmentally-friendly engine on the A330. It is the quietest and cleanest option, with the greatest margin to CAEP 4 legislation.

Rolls-Royce secures $5.6bn record order with Qatar Airways selection of the Trent XWB

18 June 2007

Rolls-Royce today announced the largest-ever firm engine order for its civil aerospace business in an order with Qatar Airways worth $5.6 billion at list prices, which includes a TotalCare long term services agreement. The order, announced at the Paris Air Show, is for Trent XWB engines to power Qatar’s new fleet of 80 Airbus A350 XWB twinjets, with deliveries beginning in 2013.

The order includes all members of the A350 XWB family, consisting of 20 A350–800s, 40 A350–900s and 20 of the largest family variant, the A350–1000. A single version of the Trent XWB will be capable of powering all aircraft in the series.

Mr Akbar Al-Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, said: “This commonality will give us a highly-efficient engine and airframe combination that will have a positive impact on cost of ownership. By developing this engine specifically for the A350 XWB, Rolls-Royce will deliver an optimised powerplant with not only the best economics, but also new generation environmental technologies.”

Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce, added: "This is an extremely significant order from one of the world’s most forward-looking airlines. Qatar Airways has developed a reputation as ambitious and fast-moving, and we are committed to helping it achieve its goals.”

Latest noise and emissions reduction features will be drawn from the

Rolls-Royce Vision technology acquisition programmes, ensuring the Trent XWB exceeds all current and anticipated environmental legislation by significant margins.

The Trent XWB is the only engine available for the A350 XWB. This is Qatar Airways’ second selection of a Trent engine. The airline also operates a fleet of four Airbus A340-600s, powered by the Trent 500.

Note to Editors:

1. The 75,000 – 95,000lb thrust Trent XWB is the sixth member of the three-shaft Trent engine series and is being developed specifically for the Airbus A350 XWB twinjet. It is available for deliveries from mid-2013 and will be certificated at 95,000lbs from entry into service.

2. By the time the Trent XWB enters service, Trent series engines will have accumulated more than 75 million flying hours.

3. TotalCare agreements, tailored for individual operators, offer a range of services extending to aspects of support such as latest predictive maintenance, asset and logistics management, as well as repair and overhaul. Under such long-term contracts, Rolls-Royce assumes full responsibility for engine maintenance in return for an agreed financial rate per flying hour.

4. Rolls-Royce already enjoys a close relationship with Qatar. Six of the latest-standard Rolls-Royce industrial Trent 60 engines, developed from the highly successful Trent aero engine, are being installed at the heart of the Dolphin project, a unique initiative designed to supply large quantities of natural gas through a 400-kilometre pipeline from Qatar’s North Field to the UAE. The gas will fire power generation and water desalinisation plants for at least the next 25 years.

5. Qatar Airways is one of only five airlines in the world with a Five Star ranking for service and excellence awarded by Skytrax, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency. Skytrax also named Qatar Airways’ cabin crew as Best in the Middle East for the fourth year running in 2006 and second best worldwide following a survey of more than 12 million passengers.

6. Averaging 35 per cent growth year on year, Qatar Airways carried more than 8 million passengers during the 2006/07 financial year. The airline operates an all-Airbus fleet of 58 aircraft flying to 75 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Far East and Indian subcontinent from its hub in Doha, capital of the State of Qatar.

Rolls-Royce record orders at Paris air show demonstrate strength of portfolio

22 June 2007

Rolls-Royce confirmed today that it had secured business worth a total of $15.1 billion at the Paris air show.

On the eve of the show, the company was selected to power the C-27J transport aircraft for the US armed forces, and also signed an agreement to develop a new corporate jet engine for Dassault. During the air show, commitments were announced for 728 engines on a total of 355 aircraft.

New customers were announced in Latin America and Russia, joining those from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and America who also placed orders.

Rolls-Royce has the broadest portfolio of power systems and services in the aerospace industry. The Group provides engines for more than 30 types of civil aircraft, and its products are in service with 41 of the world’s top 50 airlines and cargo carriers and 160 armed forces.

Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce, said: "The breadth and balance of the portfolio enables Rolls-Royce to develop new products and services at lower cost and lower risk, and to satisfy a wide range of customer requirements. We are able to apply advances in technology across our portfolio, and continuously improve the environmental impact of our products.

"Our portfolio also creates a more robust business by ensuring that the Group is not over-dependent on the success of any one sector or programme. The benefits of this portfolio approach have been illustrated by the success which Rolls-Royce has enjoyed at the Paris air show."

A good example of the advantages of having a broad portfolio is in the defence sector where Rolls-Royce was selected as propulsion system provider for C-27J transporters in the Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) programme for the US Army and US Air Force. Engines and aftermarket services for the first 78 aircraft are worth more than $500 million over the life of the JCA programme.

The AE 2100D2 turboprop for the JCA shares 80 per cent commonality with the AE 3007 turbofan and the AE 1107C-Liberty turboshaft. This family of engines powers seven different aircraft platforms, including transporters, unmanned air vehicles, regional jets, seaplanes and surveillance aircraft. To date, we have delivered almost 4,000 engines across this range of programmes.

Rolls-Royce further broadened its portfolio by signing a ground-breaking agreement with Dassault Aviation to provide a new engine for the next-generation Falcon business jet. Rolls-Royce is the world’s leader in this market, providing engines for Bombardier, Cessna, Embraer and Gulfstream.

This is the first time Rolls-Royce has partnered with Dassault in this sector. The 10,000lb thrust-class engine being developed for Dassault is the first of a new family designed to address opportunities in the corporate and regional aircraft sector.

Four versions of the company’s high-thrust Trent engine series were ordered during the air show by 17 airlines, freight carriers and leasing companies. Rolls-Royce won commitments for 508 Trent engines on the latest Airbus and Boeing aircraft. The Trent order backlog has increased by 40 per cent as a result of this week’s announcements, taking commitments for the Trent family to 3,200 engines, of which over 1,400 have been delivered.

Rolls-Royce now has the biggest market share - 47 per cent - of engines for modern wide-bodied aircraft.

The Trent 900 and Trent 1000 hold launch positions on the A380 and Boeing 787 respectively, while the Trent 500 is the sole engine for latest versions of the A340. The sixth member of the family, the Trent XWB, is currently the only engine offered on the new A350 XWB twinjet.

The Trent XWB was the subject of the Group’s largest-ever single order – worth $5.6 billion including a long-term TotalCare® aftermarket agreement – from Qatar Airways. In addition, the A350 XWB received a total of 141 firm orders from five customers during the show, including Aeroflot, Singapore Airlines and lessors Alafco and CIT. Airbus received commitments for 52 aircraft from four additional customers - US Airways, Kingfisher, Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah.

Orders for the A340-500 and –600 from Etihad and Kingfisher resulted in business for the Trent 500.

The Trent family demonstrates the way Rolls-Royce introduces incremental new technology for the benefit of customers, as well as using it to enhance the in-service performance of earlier engines.

The Trent 700, which has been upgraded through the introduction of Trent 1000 technology, received orders for 140 engines for A330 twinjets, including the freighter version from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) and from new customers Avianca of Colombia, Russia’s Aeroflot, AirAsiaX of Malaysia and the Intrepid Group of America.

Orders were received from Avianca and Flyglobespan for the Trent 1000 to power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. During the air show, the Trent 1000, which is the launch engine on the Dreamliner, made a successful maiden flight on the Rolls-Royce flying test bed at Waco, Texas.

The first set of engines is being installed on the initial Boeing 787 ahead of roll-out in Seattle next month.

The V2500, produced by International Aero Engines, in which Rolls-Royce is a senior partner, received orders at the air show for 220 engines, of which the value to Rolls-Royce is $900 million. The V2500 is a good example of a successful international collaboration between Rolls-Royce and companies in the US, Germany and Japan.

A+

Plus de 600 Trent 1000s sont commandes, de 11 entreprises qui ont commandes l'Airbus A380, 8 ont commande le Trent 900.  =)

British Airways selects Rolls-Royce power for long haul fleet

27 September 2007

British Airways has selected Rolls-Royce Trent engines to power up to 61 new long haul aircraft that it will acquire from Airbus and Boeing. The order, which includes an innovative TotalCare contract, is potentially worth in excess of $5 billion at list prices.

The order includes 12 firm and seven option Airbus A380 aircraft and 24 firm and 18 option Boeing 787s, scheduled for delivery from 2010.

Willie Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of British Airways, said: “The Rolls-Royce Trent family has a proven track record of strong environmental performance. The engines we have selected are supported by an innovative service offering and we know that they will deliver the best operational value.”

Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce plc, said: “We are very pleased that British Airways has selected the Trent for its new long-haul fleet, extending an extremely valuable and productive partnership long into the future.”

The Trent 900 is launch engine for the Airbus A380 and enters service next month. It is the world’s quietest and cleanest high thrust engine for the A380, with levels of emissions well below the requirements of all current and proposed legislation.

The Trent 1000 is the launch engine for all variants of the Boeing 787 and will power the aircraft’s first flight later this year, before entering service on the 787-8 in 2008. The engine has been specifically designed to maximise its environmental performance.

Note to Editors:

  1. British Airways operates a fleet of 107 Rolls-Royce powered aircraft, including 57 Boeing 747s, 16 Boeing 777s with a further four on order, 21 Boeing 767s and 13 Boeing 757s.

  2. The airline also has 68 Airbus A320 family aircraft in operation of which 60 are powered by the V2500 engine produced by IAE (International Aero Engines) in which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder.

  3. Including business yet to be announced, orders have been placed for over 600 Trent 1000 engines by 18 operators and five leasing companies – approximately half the Boeing 787 customers who have made an engine decision. Producing a range of thrusts from 53,000 - 75,000lb, a single version of the Trent 1000 will power all variants of the 787: the 787–8, 787-3 and 787-9. For more information about the Trent 1000, visit www.rolls-royce.com/trent1000.

  4. The Trent 900 has completed more development testing than any other Rolls-Royce engine, accumulating over 37,000 cycles on combined ground and flight tests, and more than 14,000 flying hours on four of the five flight test aircraft. Eight out of the eleven customers who have made engine selections to date on the A380 have selected the Trent 900.

  5. TotalCare, tailored for individual operators, offers a range of services from Rolls-Royce covering all aspects of asset management in support of its Civil Aerospace products. Building on the company’s knowledge, experience and infrastructure, these services include elements such as predictive maintenance, logistics management, and global repair and overhaul offerings. TotalCare can remove uncertainties from engine management and improve operational reliability for operators through a mutually aligned business relationship.

  6. Rolls-Royce is continually improving the environmental impact of its products. Each year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners, invests around £700 million on research and development, two thirds of which has the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its products and operations. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise and emissions.
