  1. des Beechcraft King Air 350ER ATOS pour l' AAF

Marketing Vice President Fabrizio Boggiani said that apart from the Indian campaign, three other export efforts are underway for ATOS, including fixed-wing use overland in a gulf country, fixed-wing maritime patrol for a Far East country and for a North African customer.

A Beechcraft King Air 350ER, modified with Finmeccanica company SELEX Galileo’s ATOS mission system and sensors, has successfully completed the first set of aeromechanical flights required for European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification. These flights are part of a programme conducted with Corporate Aircraft SA, exclusive distributor of Hawker-Beechcraft aircraft, who are purchasing the aircraft and mission system for an undisclosed end-user.

The King Air 350ER flew with SELEX Galileo’s Gabbiano radar and Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance (ATOS) system. The integrated nature of the ATOS allowed a single operator to manage and operate the Gabbiano radar, AIS and electro-optic sensor using the same tactical interface.

“This is another example of the adaptability of our systems and our expertise in platform systems integration” said Gianfranco Terrando, SVP Air Systems, Unmanned Air Systems & Simulators at SELEX Galileo, adding “The inherent adaptability of the ATOS system combined with the range of sensor modes offered by our Gabbiano radar offers a step change in capability for King Air customers who need an answer to complex and challenging ISR requirements.”

    Syrian rebels acquire surface-to-air missiles-report

    Image IPB

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) --- Rebels fighting to depose Syrian president Bashar al Assad have for the first time acquired a small supply of surface-to-air missiles, according to a news report that a Western official did not dispute.

NBC News reported Tuesday night that the rebel Free Syrian Army had obtained nearly two dozen of the weapons, which were delivered to them via neighboring Turkey, whose moderate Islamist government has been demanding Assad's departure with increasing vehemence.

Indications are that the US government, which has said it opposes arming the rebels, is not responsible for the delivery of the missiles.

But some US government sources have been saying for weeks that Arab governments seeking to oust Assad, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have been pressing for such missiles, also known as MANPADs, for man-portable air-defense systems, to be supplied to the rebels.

In recent days, air operations against the rebels by Syrian government forces appear to have been stepped up, particularly around the contested city of Aleppo, making the rebels' need for MANPADs more urgent.

Precisely what kind of MANPADs have been delivered to Syrian rebels is unclear and NBC News did not provide details. Such weapons range from the primitive to highly sophisticated.

And even if the rebels do have the weapons, it is unclear whether they have the training to operate them effectively against Assad's air forces in the immediate future.

Some conservative US lawmakers, such as Republican Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, have criticized the administration of President Barack Obama for moving too slowly to assist the rebels and have suggested the US government become directly involved in arming Assad's opponents.

  5. Pour Philip Hammond le successeur du Typhoon c'est le F35

UK slashes F-35B numbers but might look to split buy with F-35As

UK Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has signalled a major revision to the UK's plan for procuring the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), with a sizeable cut in the expected number of F-35B short take-off/vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft purchased and the possible acquisition of a second variant: the conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) F-35A.

In remarks on 19 July in the United States, Hammond said the UK would order 48 F-35Bs to equip the UK's future carrier strike force. He added that a follow-on F-35 buy would be set out in a future Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR), with the aim of replacing the Eurofighter Typhoon in UK service.

Hammond was in the US to attend the handover of the UK's first F-35B (BK-1) at Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth facility. The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed his comments, telling IHS Jane's : "The defence secretary said that initially the UK would buy 48 jets for the aircraft carriers and announce at a later date what the final numbers would be. We will not finalise our decisions on the F-35 programme until SDSR in 2015.
