Stealth Destroyer Set for Launch at Mazagaon Today

VISAKHAPATNAM:  The first of P15-B stealth destroyers is scheduled to be launched at Mazagaon Docks Limited (MDL), Monday. The MDL is launching the vessel in the conventional-end launching method with a launch weight of approximately 3,000 tons. The ship is slated to be christened ‘Visakhapatnam’ on commissioning in the Indian Navy. The process the ship being put to sea for the first time from the slipway is called launching.

 

The 163-metre-long ship, propelled by four gas turbines, is designed to achieve a speed of over 30 knots at a displacement of about 7,300 tons. The indigenously designed stealth destroyer will have state-of-the-art weapons, sensors, an advanced Action Information System, Integrated Platform Management system, sophisticated power distribution system and a host of other advanced features.

L’exercice naval franco-indien Varuna commence à Goa

La 14è édition des exercices navals franco-indiens Varuna a commencé ce vendredi avec l’arrivée à Goa de 4 bâtiments de la marine nationale.

La marine nationale est représentée par le porte-avions Charles de Gaulle, 2 frégates — le Chevalier Paul et le Jean de Vienne, le pétrolier Meuse et un avion de patrouille maritime Atlantique 2.

 

Le porte-avions Charles de Gaulle transporte des chasseurs Rafale M et Super Etendard, des E2C Hawkeye AWACS et des hélicoptères Dauphin et Alouette 3.

 

L’Inde fera participer son porte-avions INS Viraat, les frégates Mumbai, Tarkash, Gomati, le pétrolier Deepak, le sous-marin Shankul et quelques avions à l’exercice.

 

L’exercice Varuna couvre l’ensemble des opérations maritimes, depuis celles d’un porte-avions, des exercices de lutte anti-sous-marine, des opérations d’interdiction maritime jusqu’à des ravitaillements à la mer multiples.

L’exercice Varuna-15 doit durer 10 jours et se terminer le 2 mai.

Indian Navy Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya to be Upgraded with Defensive Weapon Systems

 

According to local media, the Indian Navy aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (R 33) will soon enter its first scheduled maintenance. As part of this scheduled maintenance, several new weapon systems will be fitted on board the aircraft carrier. Work is to be carried out at the Naval Ship Repair Yard in the new naval base at Karwar, where is based INS Vikramaditya.

The new systems to be installed include Israeli made (Rafael) Barak 1 surface-to-air missile systems (in Vertical Launch Systems) and four 30mm six-barrel AK-630 Close In Weapon System guns. The systems will be taken off decommissioned Project 16 Godavari class Frigates.

Les allemands ont les moyens d'integrer des missiles de croisiere dans leurs sous marins? Ou il s'agirai juste de missiles type harpoon/exocets pour de la frappe cotiere?

Edit: il semble qu'il s'agisse d'une capacite "harpoon"

DCNS a tout de même une bonne plu value a faire valoir avec l'integration possible de MdCN, en matiere de frappe a terre c'est quand meme pas le meme niveau! (et les exocets sont la aussi)

India's First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant Undocked by Cochin Shipyard

 India on June 10th undocked its first indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in the South West of the country. The ship, built at CSL, will now undergo final outfitting followed by a series of sea trials before its induction into the Indian Navy.

Difficile à dire. INS Vikrant a un déplacement PC de 40 000t et a posé la quille en 2009, le nouveau Type 001A a facilement 20 000t de plus et a posé sa quille en 2015.

Personnellement, en basant sur la modification de 16 Liaoning et les autres chiffres, je table sur une mise à flot fin 2016 et une livraison à la marine chinois en 2019 pour le Type 001A.

Je n'ai pas suivi du tout pour l'Inde, donc je ne me prononce pas.

Je rajouterais juste que les chantiers navals indiens sont connus pour leur lenteur. Je ne sais pas ce qu'il en est des chantiers navals chinois mais j'ai l'impression que c'est un peu plus rapide. Par exemple, entre la première coupe (en 2003) et l'entrée en service du Kolkata (en 2014), il s'est passé 11 ans parce que la marine changeait toujours ses plans. Ils ont aussi pris énormément de retard pour les Scorpène. 

 

Du coup, ce sera peut-être la marine chinoise qui aura son PA (plus gros en plus) avant la Marine Indienne.

Vue le fonctionnement des chantier indiens, sauf surprise, la Chine parviendra a mettre en service son premier PA indigene avant l'Inde.

Je n'ai pas du tout suivi la construction de P-15A Kolkata. Le seul point de référence que j'ai, c'est le planning de construction de l'un des destroyers de Type 052C qui est affiché à l'intérieur du navire.



On a grosso modo un cycle de construction de 5 ans pour un navire aux alentours de 6000t pleine charge, au chantier naval Changxing Jiangnan de Shanghai :

* 19 mois de découpe de tole et de la construction des modules
* 12 mois de construction sur cale
* 30 mois d'agencement dans l'eau, avec les premiers essais de propulsion dès le 11ème mois, les essais d'armements à partir du 19ème mois

Il sera judicieux d'avoir un planning similaire côté indien pour une analyse horizontale.

Vous avez vendu des sous-marins Scorpène à l'Inde en 2005. Où en sont ces navires ?

Je viens de rencontrer notre partenaire indien MDL qui construit ces sous-marins à Mumbai et je peux vous dire que ce chantier qui a mis du temps à démarrer est aujourd'hui bien avancé. Le premier sous-marin est sur son dock flottant depuis le 6 avril et il fera ses premiers essais à l'automne. La moitié de la coque du sixième Scorpène est construite.

Indian Navy aiming at 200-ship fleet by 2027

NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy is aiming to have a 200-ship fleet by 2027 as per a maritime capability perspective plan in order to guard interests and assets of the nation in waters around them, a top Naval officer said today.

The Navy, which has 137 ships and submarines under its command, has been at the forefront of indigenisation, and is also in "exploratory talks" with Russia to see if some of the ships can be built with their collaboration so as to "expedite" the process.

"There is a maritime capability perspective plan. As per that, there are certain number of ships that we have to build by a particular timeline. Today we have 137 ships and submarines... our aspiration is to become a 200-ship Navy (by 2027)," Vice Chief of Navy Vice Admiral P Murugesan told reporters here when asked about the force's aims.

On cooperation with Russia, he said the Navy was in talks for 3 Grigorivich-class frigates, an improved version of the six Talwar-class frigates the Navy obtained between 2003-13.

"As of now, it is only in exploratory domain. As and when decided, it will be under make in India," he clarified.

The Vice Chief noted that the road ahead is not easy as on an average for every 2-3 ships inducted, one from the existing lot retires due to age, and underlined that navies have to be maintained and they cannot be created overnight.

"It is a catch up game. It will take time and it will not be very easy. I would like to see 200 ships. Wherever our trade and interest are taking place, we should take care of our needs in those areas," he said adding that India does not need 1,000 ships for that.

Murugesan confirmed that a high-level committee of the Defence Ministry has submitted its report identifying shipyards capable of executing the about-Rs 60,000 crore project of building the next six conventional submarines under Project P75I. A Request for Proposal (RFP) would be issued soon in this regard.

He also mentioned that an RFP would also be issued for the procurement of two deep-sea rescue vessels.

Asked if the Navy will go in for additional Scorpene submarines apart from the six being built currently in Mumbai, he said the answer can only be guesswork at the moment as the Navy will have to look into the entire capacity, capability and other ongoing projects like P75I and the building of six nuclear submarines sanctioned early this year.

The officer said the six nuclear submarines to be built will be finished in lesser time than what other navies normally take.

Asked about the delay in procurement of torpedos and helicopters for the Navy, he said everything was under process.

He refused to comment on India's nuclear submarine Arihant, which is expected to undertake missile test later this year.

The Vice Chief also refrained from disclosing details about the Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile, the next generation Barak missile, saying it would be "proved" soon.

The missile, being built in collaboration with Israel, is set to be test fired from a ship soon.

Asked how the force was preparing against cyber attack, he said an elaborate organisation has been set up within the Navy to tackle the threat.
