Rafale and other european jets [English only]

DrSomnath,

I agree, the Pollack article is wrong. Pollack doesn't understand that FCAS is not a single platform, but a system of manned and unmanned platforms.

This is explained on slide 5 of the official presentation on SCAF (French for FCAS):

http://www.amgroupes.fr/admin/compte_rendus/697_compte_rendu.pdf

The manned FCAS platform(s) will be current generation aircraft (an upgraded Rafale + F-35). The unmanned UCAV platform will do the heavy lifting, forcing the enemy to expose itself and thus allowing the manned fighters to use situational awareness and network tactics to win the fight from standoff range, using Meteor and cruise missiles.

Hence the fundamental misunderstanding... The manned component of FCAS will NOT be a 6th generation fighter... because this would defeat the purpose of developing a UCAV.

Basically the Russian, Chinese and Indian forumers are all excited about the prospect of developing 6th generation fighters, but they don't realize that everyone else is hoping to leapfrog the 6th generation, with 7th generation UCAVs...

Bonjour

well nothing new about pollock  it is his usual  stuff when he writes his articles in AIN online .com

seen before also when he posted the over optimistic article about GaN modules for Captor E aesa radar in future

which even recent typhoon consortium marketing brochures even didnt mention about GaN in it's future road map for Captor -E

aesa radar

what you have posted is indeed the fact which i have also stated before that FCAS would be based on UCAV not a new manned

fighter

but i like to tell you it's 5th gen fighter basically not 6th gen as US have recently been developing their 6th gen fighter secretly to replace  raptor in future

7th GEN fighter is a way distant thing

This is about doctrine. Nothing else.

The idea at the end of Cold War was "we need air superiority" (and so came the Typhoon and the Raptor), in France it was " we need to be able to deal with whatever is in the other team" and so came the Rafale. The French doctrine was better this times.

For tomorrow, the doctrine of some richs countries is (note the similarities) "we need air superiority, strong muscles, big eyes" and the doctrine of not-so-rich countries is "We know the structural problems of big brawlers, we want a solution we allow us to deal with them, and to be able to struggle with low intensities opposition" (using passive spotting, focusing high technology on a part of the air fleet).

Btw nowadays the Rafale is the good solution for big power wannabe (not that expensive, tech transfer, state of the western art), but no one can say that his future brother French/Euro made will be the good one. And if a European politic speak about 2030, you can sleep on your ears at least until 2045 haha.

Good news for TYPHOON fanboys

Captor E aesa radar  development deal is signed

but still they  dont want to predict any definite timeline for it's induction into the partner states

so by default one can assume 2017 would be safest bet at the moment

but meanwhile france have already signed the developmental contract for advanced capabilty of RBE 2 aesa radar
i.e PASSIVE RADAR(ESM) , ELECTRONIC ATTACK

ZT China's latest F-80 air to air missiles

ft-80-aa-jpg.159351

Any idea what is this air to air missile????

i am posting from chinese defence forum

These outline the details, we can generally infer that this is an infrared-guided medium range air to air missiles, from its number F-80 speculated that the range may be 80 km. It should be installed to guide the head in the head, through the octagonal tapered optical observation window forward. The reason for using an octagonal cone head, it is in order to take into account the need to drag and does not affect the infrared optical observations. If you want to achieve, "the distance" range, then it should be equipped with a data link, in the first half of the flight data link flight and inertial guidance in close and then opened a wide field of view infrared seeker search target. The performance of its high estimate seeker can be found on the target about 20 kilometers away. That is, except the last active radar seeker to search for the target to open the boot infrared search system to find the target outside its operational processes and classes should be active radar guided AIM-120 air missiles of the same. This shows that the company has successfully developed excellent performance infrared optical system. The emergence of the gas rudder may indicate that the missile uses a two-speed system, in the last paragraph can then start flying rocket engine to track the target, or it may indicate that it take into account the need for close combat. Because in general, the maximum range of the missile from a rocket engine fuel already depleted by coasting, then of course, utterly useless gas rudder.

This missile is clearly directed at the target to go stealth, and the US Navy developed AIM-9X Block3 or PL-10 missile similar ideas in the aircraft industry, are locked up with a high-performance infrared guided radar stealth targets. But the F-80 to go further and start to try to develop a high-performance infrared seeker rather than the mid-range radar seeker missiles, China and the US over the previous two missiles were farther. Not only can be used to play stealth machine, too, can play a non-stealth aircraft. If the development is successful, the missile can almost be said to create a new era.

LOOks very sci -fi

Is init??

Is it for chinese 5th gen fighters ??

P.S [ deino] aka andreas ruppcheat from key pub forum should include this in it's article in air force monthly/combat aircraft magazine
