MADRID --- The Council of Ministers has approved signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of France and the Kingdom of Spain to cooperate on a demonstrator for an unmanned combat aircraft (UCAV). The cost of Spain’s participation to the program is estimated at 35.5 million euros, spread over the 2007-2012 period.
Since September 2004, work has been undertaken jointly with France on the development project of the Neuron demonstrator of an unmanned combat aircraft.
Neuron is intended for air-to-ground combat missions, integrating latest-generation technologies, which will be able to carry out its missions autonomously.
It is anticipated that Neuron will be completed in 2001 or 2012. In addition to Spain, Sweden, Italy, Greece and Switzerland also plan to join the program by means of bilateral agreements.
