"Sea King ASaC7 airborne surveillance and control aircraft (upgraded from AEW2As) are also being deployed to the Persian Gulf for use over Afghanistan and Iraq. Their Thales Searchwater 2000 radars (which can track 400 air targets simultaneously) have a pulse-Doppler mode and will provide ground moving target indication imagery pending availability of the Raytheon Sentinel R1. Other Mk 7 equipment includes the Thales Cerberus mission system and Link 16 datalink.
The Cerberus system and Searchwater 2000 are being marketed for other applications, including the NH90, discussed below. The RN is interested in developing this avionics combination for its Maritime Airborne Surveillance and Control (Masc) aircraft to be based on its CVF carriers, and is thought to be discussing with the US Navy a jointly-funded trials installation on the Bell Boeing V-22.
